In-Depth Information
Zé Da Calçada (Amarante)
This is a timeless authentic Portuguese restaurant located in the old part of the town of
Amarante, one block east of the main bridge that connects both sides of town. Zé Da Calçada
is housed in one of the few buildings that survived Napoleon's rampage in 1809 and serves
amazing codfish dishes.
Amarante's location, nestled between the Minho and Douro Rivers and halfway between Porto
and Tras-os-Montes, allows Zé Da Calçada access to several of the area's specialty
ingredients like veal, chicken and lamb. The restaurant prides itself on its hearty, satisfying
dishes and sizeable wine list. Zé Da Calçada also features a great deal of natural charm.
Diners who choose to sit out on the terrace overlooking Tamega River can enjoy the mild
breeze and collective rustling of the trees on the property. Indoors, diners can also relax in the
spacious contemporary dining room. Last and certainly not least, service is stellar! If you are
in Amarante, you must dine here.
