In-Depth Information
Each button takes the user to a visually consistent formatted page, filled with
narrative and photographs displaying evidence of student work or professional
development.
Although the visual layout features are the same, the content changes on each
Web page. Nevertheless, the content continues to highlight K.F.'s teaching
abilities, experience and credentials, which are aimed at earning her a job.
Statements such as this one found on her cross-cultural page (http://durak.org/
kathy/portfolio/cross-cultural.html), “My classroom will be set up to facilitate
second language acquisition through the use of many CLAD strategies includ-
ing: visuals, role playing, realia, and hands-on activities” lead the reader to
believe that K.F. intends to create this type of classroom environment when she
has a classroom of her own. Otherwise, K.F. might have stated, “My classroom
is set up…” rather than her actual quote. K.F. is “selling herself” to the reader.
Contact Information
K.F. places her contact information in the middle of her homepage, but she also
places her contact information on the bottom of every Web page, under buttons
that lead to other Web pages in her portfolio.
Biography/Credentials
K.F.'s credentials are displayed on her homepage as well as on a separate Web
page linked to her “Professional” page (http://durak.org/kathy/portfolio/
professional.html). On this page, K.F. lists her resume, which reveals her
degrees and student teaching experiences, certificates and conference atten-
dance.
Educational Philosophy/Pedagogy
Although K.F.'s Web portfolio lacks a page or a narrative dedicated to
describing her teaching philosophies or beliefs, K.F. includes pedagological
declarations as headings atop each Web page. Atop K.F.'s “Environment”
page (http://durak.org/kathy/portfolio/environment.html), she writes:
Establishes and sustains a level of student rapport and a class-
room environment that promotes learning, multicultural under-
standing and equity, fosters mutual respect among class mem-
bers, and respect for linguistic differences…
