In-Depth Information
Interactive Features
To “jazz up” a Web portfolio or to make the content easily comprehensible, a
teacher may incorporate interactive features. Such interactive features can
include: video clips, interactive lessons and activities, or printable materials.
Visual Layout
Visual layout is the design or look of the Web portfolio. It is the package of how
the portfolio is presented to the viewer. Visual layout creates the appearance
and presents the information in a variety of modalities, which include: color,
font, typeface, pictures, images, flash animation, and audio.
Utilization of Criterion
For the following six case studies, I utilized this set of criterion to assess
randomly selected teacher Web portfolios, found through Web searches on the
Internet.
Case Study #1 — Elementary School Teacher
This is a case study of a randomly selected elementary school teacher's Web
portfolio. This case study examines the teaching Web portfolio of K.F., an
elementary school teacher (http://durak.org/K.F./portfolio/index.html), and
uses the proposed 10 criteria for teacher Web portfolios as a rubric and
assessment measure.
Audience/Purpose/Persuasion
Audience:
K.F.'s teacher Web portfolio appeals to two audience groups, employers and
parents. On her homepage, K.F.'s content is clearly intended for potential
employers, however this page could also appeal to parents. The remainder of
her portfolio continues to target employers and parents.
