In-Depth Information
Create the Web-based e-portfolio on his or her own within a course
provided by their department curriculum (e.g., education students who
take a portfolio class).
Create the Web-based portfolio as an independent study with a faculty
member in their department.
NOTE: One goal of the program is to empower faculty members to create
their own e-portfolio. To do this, faculty can participate in training on how
to teach and mentor students in the creation of an e-portfolio within their
own disciplines. (This can be part of the Teaching and Learning Initiative
for Faculty Members-In connection with the faculty resource center)
Classroom training and online learning simulations will be available to
assist faculty in developing the skills and confidence needed to develop
and advise students on e-portfolio development.
Technology Issues
(Work with the IT department, technology savvy faculty, and your faculty
technology resource center to develop a plan to pilot a Web portfolio project.)
Sever space for the pilot project is available on the GENERIC University
server managed by
GENERIC School Assistant Professor XXXX. Professor XXXX, Pro-
fessor YYYY, and myself will work with the faculty technology resource
center to administer the Web server space and be involved in the
development of the e-portfolio portal.
Security Precautions:
(Consult your IT department and other faculty for suggestions on securing
appropriate content within student-created Web portfolios.)
Students will be monitored by a faculty member throughout the e-portfolio
process to insure that content is regulated.
Student Updates and Lifetime Portfolios:
(This is a tough sell to administrators so tread lightly and do not expect an
incredibly long life span for graduated students' Web portfolios. As well, do not
expect universal open access for students to their Web portfolios. Next, I
provide a suggestion, but this is not a tested idea yet, only a possible scenario
