directory name is on the host (e.g., public_html), and simply drag up all the files
from your public folder to the hosts public folder.
Another way to upload to upload is to select the files you want to upload and
then click on to
Site>Put.
This will put the files up to the server. When putting
files to the host you will get a dialog box asking you if you want to include
dependent files. The dependent files include images, sound files, SWF files and
CSS files. When uploading you should include the dependent files if they have
changed. This means that if you edited in image on a Web page and you really
upload that page you should include the dependent files so that the changed
image will be uploaded. If you are only uploading a Web page that has changed
in text content or another way such as a background color change, you do not
need to put up dependent files because there is nothing to be updated.
Moving Site Files
If you decide that you need to move files around with in your root directory, it
is important that you do it inside the site panel of Macromedia Dreamweaver.
If you move files around on the desktop or on your hard drive, you risk breaking
image links and page links because file locations have changed. When you use
the site panel in Dreamweaver to move files around, Dreamweaver provides a
dialogue box that shows any affected image or page links. You have the option
to update these links to the new file locations. When you let Dreamweaver
update these links, the entire site gets updated and you do not have to worry
about breaking connections.
Another great feature about the site panel is that it allows you to double-click
on any of the files inside of it and it will launch a proprietary application that
created the file and allow on-the-fly editing.
Deleting files from the site:
Select the files from the server (host side) and press delete. That will delete the
files remotely from the server. The files will remain locally on your hard drive.
