Other healthcare entities
As important as hospitals, clinics, and doctor's hospitals are, they are not the only source of health-
care information. Stated differently, when looking at the larger picture of healthcare, there are other
important sources of information other than the classic providers. One such source of information
is the pharmaceutical companies. It is entirely compatible for pharmaceuticals to participate in the
healthcare information factory. Figure B.58 shows the architectural positioning of the other healthcare
entities in the healthcare information factory.
The type of data found in the healthcare information factory when there are other sources of
information appears in Figure B.58 . In Figure B.58 it is shown that detailed data is generated by the
other healthcare sources in the day-to-day operations of the sources. Typically a unit of information
that is captured is a sale or other transaction. The detailed data is integrated into a local data warehouse.
From the local data warehouse the data is then reintegrated into a collective common data warehouse.
Financing the infrastructure
The differences between the local data warehouse and the larger collective common analytical data
warehouse bring to the surface an important question: Who pays for the different data warehouses
