Step 4: Dig High Areas Down and Fill Low Areas
Toremovethesoilfromthehighareas,youwillhavetopropupthebedframewithaboard,
rockorconcrete blockuntilthereisroomforashovel,prybarorpickaxe.Afterallthehigh
places are identified and dug out, check the level again. Then identify and remove the new
highspots.Repeattheprocessuntiltheframeislevel.Thisisabackandforthprocessasthe
frame "see-saws" it's way down into the ground.
Then, when satisfied the frame is at the pre-planned depth and is level, fill any low areas
with soil or gravel and tamp it with a board or pry bar.
Figure 47 & Figure 48 show various stages of the leveling process and Figure 49 shows the
final position of the bed frame. Notice in Figure 50 , the large rock on top of the frame to
hold the frame in position. The frame had not yet been back-filled with soil.
