You can make the needed adjustment easier to see by using Camera Raw's
Sharpness slider. The additional sharpness, as shown in Figure 4.5, makes the noise
more prominent.

I find that small adjustments here are normally the best, with many images
requiring a value of less than 10, and very rarely up to 15. In the example shown here,
I increased the setting to 8, which has reduced the appearance of noise, or graininess in
the image, without destroying detail (Figure 4.6).
Note: If you are using Photoshop Elements—or you are using Photoshop and didn't take my advice
in Chapter 3,“RAW Conversion,” to apply sharpening to only the preview—be sure to return the Sharp-
ness slider to zero before converting the image.
