In-Depth Information
vanna views at AKL. No five-person rooms are available—standard rooms sleep four on
two queens. You'll also find a table and two chairs, mini-fridge, TV, dresser, closet, and a
coffee-maker. The divided bath includes two sinks and a hair dryer, and a toilet and tub in
a separate room. Of the four room types at the Disney Vacation Club Jambo and Kidani
Villas, studios are most comparable to standard AKL rooms. They sleep four in a slightly
larger space, on a queen and a fold-out couch. Even though smaller, Jambo studios are the
better choice than Kidani studios, as the Jambo building is much better themed, and dining
is much more convenient. Rooms have balconies or patios, and are accessed from interior
corridors. Like the other deluxe resorts, you can also reserve concierge-supported rooms
(“club” rooms) and suites.
There are two table service restaurants at in the main Jambo building, and another at
Kidani. In Jambo, Jiko nears the top of many “best Disney dining” lists, has a resort casual
dress code, and offers an eclectic African-inspired menu. Next-door Boma is more fam-
ily friendly, with a wide-ranging buffet. At Kidani, the underappreciated gem Sanaa has
an African/Indian inspired menu. AKL also has one of the better counter service options
among the deluxes, and one of Disney World's best bars. There's another bar at each pool.
Unlike the other deluxes, there's no easy access to more great dining at another hotel.
Amenities include nightly movies, campfires, jogging trails, playgrounds, a spa/fitness
center, hot tubs, and arcades. AKL is alone among the Disney deluxe resorts in not being
on water, having no beach, and offering no easy access to water sports. AKL is one of three
deluxe resorts (the Polynesian and Wilderness Lodge are the others) that are not convention
hotels.
At the Animal Kingdom Lodge, you should pay extra for savanna views. Savanna view
rooms are $458/night on weekdays and $530/night on Fridays and Saturdays during the
2015 Fall season. 2015 peak prices for these rooms are $675 and prices bottom out at $416/
night. These prices are typically around $100-$125/night more than standard view rooms.
