Disney's Polynesian Village Resort
Disney's Polynesian Village Resort (“Poly”; “Village” was added to the name in 2014), a
monorail resort, is themed around the Pacific islands of Polynesia. Theming at the Polyne-
sian is pervasive and detailed, but more subtle than that of the jaw-dropping Wilderness
Lodge and Animal Kingdom Lodge. Lush landscaping, lovely beaches, flaming torches,
and exotically styled and named “longhouses” (where you find the rooms) create a delight-
ful impression. In the Great Ceremonial House (“GCH”) near the entrance to the resort are
dining, shops, guest services, and, on the second floor, access to the resort monorail with
service to the Magic Kingdom, the other monorail resorts, and the Transportation and Tick-
et Center (TTC). Disney Vacation Club Villas opened for booking in the lagoon and east
side of the resort in 2015. The refurbed main Nanea Volcano Pool, expected to re-open in
the spring, perhaps as early as April, is just outside the GCH, and nearby is a second pool,
good-sized but short on sunbathing space. This second pool is expected to close for refurb
after the main pool re-opens.
