In-Depth Information
Amenities are thinner than at the other moderates, although most that are missing are
nearby at Riverside. On site, you'll find (besides the pool) an arcade, playground, and
nightly movies. (Some nights, movies are at Riverside or POFQ, but not both.)
At POFQ there are no “preferred” rooms—itself an indication of how easy it is to get
around for a moderate—but you can still pay extra for king beds, for garden views, for pool
views, and for water views. Standard view rooms are $204/night on weekdays and $226/
night on Fridays and Saturdays during the 2015 Fall season. 2015 peak prices for these
rooms are $285 and prices bottom out $182/night.
Jim's Gems
by Jim Korkis
Disney's Port Orleans Resort first opened to the public in May 1991. It was themed
to the French Quarter of New Orleans around the mid-1800s and was situated by the
Sassagoula River, a man-made Disney waterway named after the Native American
word for the Mississippi. The jester figure located near Doubloon Lagoon pool is
closely based on the figure found next to the Canal Street / Algiers Ferry terminal
in New Orleans. Mardi Gras legends Blaine Kern Artists Inc. collected and created
special prop items such as the jesters. Some of the Mardi Gras decorations were pur-
chased directly from warehouses in New Orleans.
