Dining Reviews: The Theme Parks and Downtown
Disney
Dining at Disney's Animal Kingdom
Disney's Animal Kingdom offers a nice variety of consistently high-quality restaurants and
quick services, and we like each for different reasons. The Rainforest Café at the front of
the park is much less crowded than the Downtown Disney iteration, and offers the same
fun atmosphere fueled by Animatronics and a vast menu. Theme park admission is not re-
quired to dine there. Tusker House in Africa is a low-key character meal featuring Donald
and Mickey for all three meals. The expansive buffet area makes sampling the 30+ items
easy, and the characters have more time to spend with guests than at the more crowded re-
sort character meals. Yak & Yeti serves up fantastic Pan-Asian food in a restaurant full of
authentic artifacts from India, China, and elsewhere.
Quick service options at Animal Kingdom are above average as well. Pizzafari serves
up standard Disney pizza in a colorful, air-conditioned space. Pizza is serviceable, but ex-
pect to pay about $10 each for a personal pan. Restaurantosaurus in DinoLand USA is your
burger and nugget option. You'll find plenty of air-conditioned seating, in addition to out-
door patio tables. Better is Yak & Yeti Local Food Cafes, which serves up Asian specialties
like Teriyaki Beef and Honey Chicken. Unfortunately, all seating is outdoors, and it can be
uncomfortably hot and wet in the summer. Best is Flame Tree Barbecue, where you'll find
Disney's best quick service ribs, pork sandwiches, and half chickens. Even the Smoked
Chicken Salad is one of the best on property. While seating is outdoors, it's better covered
with fans overhead. Walk all the way down to the water for expansive views of Asia and
Expedition Everest.

OVERVIEW Part of a chain of 25+ restaurants sprinkled around the world, Rainforest Cafe
blends an immersive environment with a laundry list of a menu. Dine on steaks, pas-
tas, salads, burgers, or one of 50+ other items, all while Animatronic gorillas pound their
chests, birds sing, and thunder booms from the starry night-time sky. The food is unlikely
to impress, but it's all serviceable and portions are huge. The restaurant is extremely loud
and the atmosphere may startle young children apprehensive about rides like DINOSAUR
and Haunted Mansion, although older children love the atmosphere. Because it's located at
the front of the park, plan to eat when you're near the entrance/exit.
