Disney's Hollywood Studios
Disney's Hollywood Studios opened as a combined theme park and working production
studio under the name Disney-MGM Studios on May 1, 1989. The name changed to Dis-
ney's Hollywood Studios in 2008. While several famous shows and movies were filmed or
animated on site, it's been more than ten years since any serious studio work has happened
here.
It's now “just” a Disney theme park, but several of Hollywood Studios' rides and shows
are among the best Walt Disney World has to offer. With a total of five rides and a dozen
shows, its repertoire is thin, but what it does offer will satisfy most guests and fill an entire
day.
Touring the Studios is more complicated than one might expect due to long lines at the
headliners and several lengthy stage shows that run on a limited schedule. The layout is
also a bit confusing for first-time visitors. The Cheat Sheet map at the end of the chapter
will make traversing the park significantly easier.
FastPass+ Priority
FastPass+ at the Studios is divided into two tiers. In Tier 1 are Toy Story Midway Mania,
Rock 'n' Roller Coaster, Great Movie Ride,
Fantasmic!
, and
Beauty and the Beast: Live on
Stage.
Guests may initially select only one Tier 1 attraction, which can make it a struggle
to visit both Toy Story Mania and Rock 'n' Roller Coaster on a single day without an early
arrival. Most guests will want to select Toy Story as their Tier One FastPass+ and ride Rock
'n' Roller Coaster standby early in the morning.
Guests may initially select two of the nine attractions that make up Tier 2. Here's our
suggested priority among them—most should pick two of the first four.
