Maharajah Jungle Trek
RANKING Minor attraction. EMH No. FP+ No. TYPE Self-guided walking tour, zoo exhibit.
REQUIREMENTS None.
WHAT TO EXPECT Maharajah Jungle Trek does not suffer from several of the problems that
plague the Pangani Trail—the trail is wider, there is more room to view the animals, and the
walkways aren't as crowded. This makes Maharajah more pleasant in the afternoon. Other-
wise, like Pangani, Maharajah is a trail that takes visitors through several zoo-like exhibits
and enclosures. You'll see Bengal tigers, the world's largest Komodo dragon, Malayan ta-
pirs, Blackbuck and Elds deer, and hundreds of exotic birds. Bats are located in a separate
house that's easy to skip if you prefer. SCARY FACTOR None.
WHEN TO GO Much of the Trek is shaded and cooler than other areas in the Animal King-
dom, which makes it a good choice during the afternoon heat when attraction lines else-
where are longest. Closes shortly before dusk. EXPECT TO WAIT No waits. LENGTH Mahara-
jah is a little longer than a third of a mile and most visitors spend about 20 minutes walking
through it.
DinoLand USA
By far the least appreciated land in any domestic Disney theme park, DinoLand follows the
story of the Dino Institute and their Time Rover Tours. The fictitious backstory is that, in
1947, researchers found dinosaur fossils in Diggs County and “Dino fever” took hold of the
area, bringing in thousands of tourists. A local entrepreneurial couple, Chester and Hester,
took advantage of the influx by building Chester and Hester's Dino-Rama, a collection of
cheap carnival games, gaudy colors, and off-the-shelf rides.
Indeed, much of DinoLand is themed to a cheap carnival built on top of a parking
lot—on purpose. Whether it works is another debate, but the Imagineers that designed the
park would tell you it took more time and energy to make the parking lot look old and de-
crepit than it did to install much of the vegetation around the park.
Guests walking from Asia will first see The Theater in the Wild on their left. This houses
one of Disney's most elaborate stage shows, Finding Nemo-The Musical . In the center of
DinoLand sits Primeval Whirl and TriceraTop Spin. TriceraTop Spin is a spinner simil-
ar to Dumbo and The Magic Carpets of Aladdin, while Primeval Whirl is an off-the-shelf
wild-mouse-style coaster. Farther back to the left of Restaurantosaurus is DINOSAUR, the
land's major attraction and a fun dark ride that transports lucky riders back to the end of
the late Cretaceous period. Restaurantosaurus itself is a burger-and-nugget quick service
option with fun theming, plentiful air conditioning, and refillable fountain beverages.
Chester & Hester's Dinosaur Treasures shop is located near TriceraTop Spin's exit.
There's nothing here that isn't available elsewhere. Another small store is located at
DINOSAUR's exit. Here, you'll find some fun dinosaur-themed merchandise.
