Pangani Forest Exploration Trail
RANKING Minor attraction. EMH Morning. FP+ No. TYPE Self-guided walking tour, zoo ex-
hibit. REQUIREMENTS None.
WHAT TO EXPECT Visitors walk along the path and enter various enclosures and exhibits
that show off the animals in their native habitats. Expect to see hippopotamuses, meerkats,
naked mole rats, gorillas, okapi (the only known relative of the giraffe), and an extensive
number of rare African bird species. SCARY FACTOR Zero.
WHEN TO GO Last hour of operation, which may be earlier than park close. Kilimanjaro Sa-
faris spits out thousands of guests an hour right at the doors to Pangani, causing crowding
from 9:30am to 4pm along the narrow paths. The gorillas are also out more consistently in
the late afternoon. Closes shortly before dusk. EXPECT TO WAIT No waits. LENGTH Pangani
Trail is a little less than a half mile long. Most visitors spend about 30 minutes moving
through the trail and the various exhibits.
Rafiki's Planet Watch
RANKING Fun but skippable. EMH No. FP+ No. TYPE Zoological exhibits and interactive
experiences. REQUIREMENTS None.
WHAT TO EXPECT Rafiki's Planet Watch is a collection of nicely air-conditioned diversions
from long waits in the hot sun. You'll find a variety of exhibits that you'll need to take
some time with if you want to get anything out of them. There are no rides, thrills, or ex-
citement at Planet Watch—just educational exhibits. Here's what's available:
Affection Section , a petting zoo. The animals here are mostly species that are en-
dangered or otherwise at risk.
Sounds of the Rainforest , a five-minute auditory exhibit narrated by Grandmother
Willow from Pocahontas .
Conservation Station , the main building at Rafiki's Planet Watch housing the ma-
jority of the live and hands-on exhibits. Veterinarians and wildlife experts will an-
swer questions and give insight into how the Animal Kingdom operates. You can
view live-camera feeds of backstage areas where the animals are kept, as well as a
variety of other exhibits featuring a wealth of information on conservation efforts
around the globe. Exhibits and activities can change on a daily basis because the
area is actually used for live preparation and animal surgeries, so you never know
what you'll see.
Character Meet and Greets : Rafiki and friends are often on hand to meet guests to
short lines.
SCARY FACTOR Minimal. There is a snake or two and the mornings may feature intensive
veterinary procedures on the wildlife, but both are easily avoided.
