5.2.16 Services women
More than a third of the world's 753 million female services workers live (and work) in
China. Given that a fifth of the world's population lives in China it is not a great surprise
that a high proportion of such workers might live there. Most of these services are for the
people who live in this country, some for people who live elsewhere. The difference between
the relative sizes of China and India is most interesting here - given how similarly sized they
are when shaped just by population alone. Just as women living in these two most populous
of territories have very different opportunities depending on the country they were born
into - so the economic futures of these two countries are likely to differ markedly by what
work women are allowed and expected to carry out in each.

fore a majority of economically active women in Sweden work in the services sector.
Worldwide most women working in services live in China, making a female services
workforce of 260 million that is 35% of all female services workers.
Girls are asking, 'Do we get overtime? What are the benefits?' Guangdong needs
workers. Zhejiang and Shanghai need workers. They have more choices. So it's
difficult to find workers.
