Hypertension induces wall remodeling. The endothelial cells display structural
changes associated with increased media thickness due to hypertrophy of smooth
myocytes [ 703 ]. The amount of elastin does not change significantly, whereas the
collagen concentration strongly increases. Concentration of TGF
produced by
aortas of hypertensive rats rises up to 3-fold with respect to those of normotensive
rats [ 704 ].
