In-Depth Information
device incurs only negligible change when working at a certain link rate. In addition,
it has also been reported [80] that the power of routers varies near exponentially with
the change of link rate. These findings indicate that, by leveraging link rate control, the
energy consumption of network devices can be greatly reduced. This idea has led to
the proposition of the technology called Adaptive Link Rate (ALR) [81] . The issue of
applying ALR to a normal Ethernet to reduce energy consumption has been studied
where link rates are dynamically adjusted to the load to save energy [82] .
2.4 Summary
In this chapter, the literature of recent studies related to data reliability management
are reviewed. First, we reviewed existing reliability research studies on different com-
puter storage devices. Second, we reviewed existing data reliability research studies
with software-based approaches, which dominantly provide data reliability assurance
by adding data redundancy. Third, to facilitate our research on cost-effective data
transfer for data recovery and creation, some existing research studies are reviewed.
