requires a permit number and special envelope or postcard
requirements. Art is supplied by the USPS for the indicia
(where the permit number appears with Postage Paid), FIM
(facing identification mark) and horizontal bars, if applica-
ble. because placement standards for these elements are
very stringent, the USPS recommends that you submit
samples of your mail piece to a mail piece design ana-
lyst early in the design process to allow time for changes
before printing.

Analyst (MPA) on staff to
advise on properly designing
postcards, envelopes, and
packages. MPAs can help
you prevent problems before
they occur by providing
specific recommendations
on samples of a mail piece
during the design process.
They can also offer sugges-
tions at the onset of a project
for the most cost-efficient
design and mailing option.
MPAs also hold regular semi-
nars that are open to the
business community at
no charge. To locate your
regional MPA, contact the
main USPS post office branch
in your area.
