two surfaces in contact as well as avoid impact effect, the minimum load ( F min ) was
set at 10 N. According to the stress analysis of the bone-implant interface, the maxi-
mum load ( F max ) was imposed respectively as 100, 200, and 300 N. The 100 and
200 N groups represented the different contact conditions, while the 300 N group
represented the strengthening test.
Figure 7.6 shows the variation in the normal load as a function of deformation
displacement [ 16 ] for the fi rst cycle. It indicates that the contact deformation and
dissipated energy increased with the normal load.
For the whole fretting process, a classic variation in contact deformation versus
normal load as a function of cycles is shown in Fig. 7.7 . All the curves are quasi-
closed, mainly accommodated by elastic-plastic deformation of the cortical bone.
