12.3.11 Screw Modifiers
The screw modifier allows a shape to be generated by revolving a profile around an axis. To
demonstrate this, we will construct a spring. All operations are conducted in the default 3D
window user perspective view. Follow the steps in the exact order listed below.
1. Delete the default cube object and add a circle. Scale the circle down by 0.500.
2. Tab to edit mode and move the circle along the x -axis
to move vertices away from the object center (press the
N key to display the “Transform” panel and change the
median to “X: -6.000”) (Figure 12.29).
3. Tab to object mode (Figure 12.30).
4. Add a screw modifier to the circle (Figure 12.31).
5. Change the settings in the modifier panel in Figure 12.32
to the ones below:

The circle in edit mode
Axis: Y (revolve about the y -axis)

Steps: 100 (produces a smooth surface)

Screw: 10 (offsets the revolution)
-
Angle: 1000 (number of revolutions)
