Magic Kingdom
Magic Kingdom, the original Walt Disney World Theme park, opened in 1971. It was the
grandvisionofWaltDisneyhimself.Unfortunately,Waltdidnotlivetoseetheconstruction
of the park, which began in 1967- nearly a year after his death.
Originally dubbed 'The Florida Project' to keep the cost of acquiring land down as Disney
secretly plannedthepark,MagicKingdomwasmodeled afterDisneyland inCalifornia. The
park is based on the classic 'spoke and hub' layout with Cinderella Castle at the center of
the wheel- surrounded by the various 'lands' of Magic Kingdom.
