Melt-Away Bay with Summit Plummet in the distance
There are plenty of tubes floating in the pool so you can ride the waves, but during busy
timesyoumayhavetohuntforarecentlyabandonedone.Thewavesareaprettygoodsize
(the closer you are to Mount Gushmore, the bigger the waves will be) and they're fun to
ride on in one of the many tubes available. There are areas off to both sides of the pool
where little ones will be shielded from the full force of the waves, and there are even a few
waterfalls on the right side of the pool where you can relax and let the water pummel you.
Another plus is that there are several shady areas near the pool where you can relax and
cool off a bit.
Although the experience of the Melt-Away Bay wave pool is much different from that of
the Surf Pool at Typhoon Lagoon, I find it to be a more enjoyable experience- especially if
you just want to float around and relax.
