In-Depth Information
The future of molecular self-assemblies encompasses many
exciting areas. Can molecules be taught to assemble into a device or
a motor? Can we harness the power of self-assembled biomolecules
in cells to complete sophisticated jobs such as DNA repair, polymer
synthesis, and signaling initiation and cascades? Will future
chemists not only synthesize molecules but also learn to assemble
them such that life, as observed in living cells or creatures, evolves
from pure synthetic materials? Can a robot be self-assembled? Can
such robots in turn assemble more robots just like themselves and
thus amplifying their population? Only the future will tell.
