(5 Main Rd; mains K1500-3500; 7am-10.30pm) Popular among foreign visitors and the loc-
al gentry, Sittwe's fanciest restaurant offers open-air space overlooking the harbour and a
menu with many seafood options.
CURFEW
Although foreign travellers are still allowed to visit the city, the sectarian violence
that erupted in Sittwe in 2012 ( Click here ) has had a huge impact, effectively turn-
ing the city into a predominately Burmese, quasi police state overnight. When we
were in town, Sittwe's former Muslim quarter, virtually empty, was strictly off-lim-
its, and like the town's oldest mosque, was protected by armed guards. A loosely-
enforced 10pm to 5am curfew was also in place.
Information
During the rainy season, clouds can sometimes cut telephone communication.
Sittwe's hospital (
043-23511; Main Rd) and post office (May Yu St) are both near the
new clock tower.
KBZ Bank (Main Rd; 9.30am-3pm Mon-Fri) Bank offering foreign exchange.
KISS (Main Rd; per hr K500;
noon-9pm) Internet cafe with plenty of terminals.

in advance.
