taurant is a garage-style room with whirring fans and light-panels that indicate (in
Burmese) which of 35 possible curries are available that day (printed list usually avail-
able in English on request). Any curry comes with a panful of rice and eight plates of ac-
companiments, usually including salad-herbs, tomato-bean curry, peanut salad and a
semi-sweet dhal.
