If you score a north-facing 9th-floor room the views up the palace moat are impressive.

Sensibly
priced new lower-midrange hotel, handily placed behind the train station, has gleaming
clean floors, high ceilings, minibar, lift and maybe a (fake) welcome rose on the bed.
My World Hotel

Opened in 2013, the 31 rooms have
boutiquey modern design ideas and the little 5th-floor roof 'garden' has appealing views
down busy 30th St towards the station. However, some finishing touches seem rushed,
corridor carpets already need attention and some cheaper rooms are windowless.

Built in
2012, Shwe Ingyin has far more style than you'd expect from a hotel outside a major sta-
tion. A carved wooden receptionist 'island' dominates the lobby, lantern-lamps and pot-
plants enliven corridors and a 10th floor rooftop 'Skybar' has some of the best city views
in town. However, the fake wooden flooring is practical rather than pretty, and bathrooms
feel a little lacklustre for the price, except in the suites.
Choose rooms 03 or 04 on all floors for the most attractive room layout with curving
window frontage. Kettle and safe in all rooms.
Kyi Tin Hotel

Kyi Tin's defining feature is its series of balcony-fronted bungalows set in a
large yet very central lawn-and-fountain garden. Brand new but designed in a relatively
simple Burma-colonial style with black laquered wooden floors, they're fair value at pro-
motional rates.
Less interesting 'deluxe' rooms with subdued cream-brown colours are in a part-fin-
ished modern block.
