Eating & Drinking
There's a cluster of places to eat and drink atop what is known as Golden Hill. At the
foot of the hill, in the evenings, food and tea stalls set up shop. There's also a handful of
places to eat in the Junction Centre , where you'll also find a huge Ocean Supermarket
and a cinema (K1500).
Maw Khan Nong BURMESE $
(Golden Hill; meals K1500; 7am-10pm) Join government workers at this superb canteen
and beer station with a spacious outdoor terrace. Order the good value 'Bagan bowl'
meal, which includes a choice from the menu of one vegetable and two meat dishes plus
rice. So popular there are now two branches, one at the foot and one at the summit of the
hill.
Santino INTERNATIONAL $$$
(Golden Hill; meals K2500-10,000; 7am-10pm) The menu at this appealing Western-style
cafe, bakery and restaurant has something for everyone, kicking off with full American-
style breakfasts and continuing with things such as burgers, club sandwiches and pizza.
There is also a huge menu of Burmese, Chinese, Japanese and Thai food. Think United
Nations.
Café Flight INTERNATIONAL $$$
(3 Yarza Thingaha Rd; mains K2000-11,000; 8am-10pm) The safest way to board a Myanma
Airways plane is to board this one, parked in front of the Sky Palace Hotel, and turned
into a cafe-bar serving draught Tiger beer, coffee, noodles, pasta and pizza. The plane
smells more than a little musty, so most diners prefer to eat in the main restaurant behind.
Getting There & Away
AIR
Nay Pyi Taw International Airport (NYT; www.nptia.com ) is now open for business, loc-
ated about 10 miles (16km) southeast of the city. There are several domestic flights daily
linking Nay Pyi Taw with Yangon (US$65 to US$75 one way), plus international ser-
vices to Bangkok several times a week.
BUSES
Nay Pyi Taw has two bus stations. The closest to the hotel zone is Myomazay Bus Sta-
tion , west of the Thabyaegone roundabout. The Bawga Thiri bus station is on the Pyin-
