Next door, more wild beasts roam the safari park , which opened in 2011 and is toured
on electric canopy-covered buggies which are quite a relief in the heat of the day. The
35-acre facility, home to zebras, rhinos, tigers and a pair of giraffes, is divided into sec-
tions showcasing the fauna of Africa, Asia and Australia.
Water Fountain Garden PARK
(admission K200, camera charge K1000; 8.30am-8.30pm) More or less at the heart of Nay
Pyi Taw is this government-built grassy park, which boasts a viewing platform, water
features (usually turned on around dusk) and cheaply constructed and already crumbling
decorative structures bedecked with twinkling fairy lights at night.
Sleeping
Foreign visitors must stay in the hotel zone where new complexes have sprouted like
daisies. Forced to build quickly, construction and decorative standards are often woeful,
but the competition means some reasonable rates are available when compared with tour-
ist destinations such as Yangon and Mandalay.

One of the very few cheapies in the hotel zone, Golden Lake has standard rooms with
shared bathroom or superior rooms with attached bathroom. Both include similar amenit-
ies such as satellite TV and fridge.
Hotel Amara HOTEL $$$

vourite with visiting diplomats and NGOs, the Amara is a welcoming place to stay. The
104 executive rooms are an affordable US$70, but suites are aimed at high-flying in-
vestors and include butler service. Breakfast included.
Nan Waddy Hotel RESORT $$$

cious and sprawling Nanwaddy has a striking lobby to welcome guests and a series of
rooms and bungalows set around a pretty lake full of lotus flowers. Rooms are reason-
able value and include all mod cons. The suites are pretty impressive for those with the
budget and include a transfer by golf buggy.
