Tun Handicrafts/ Moe Moe's LACQUERWARE

( www.tunhandicrafts.com ; Main Rd; 8am-9pm) This family-run local business was one of
the first to establish itself in New Bagan and is run by U Kan Tun and her daughter Moe
Moe. The large showroom includes a mix of traditional and modern lacquerware, and it
is possible to see every step of the process in an adjacent workshop.
Bagan House LACQUERWARE

( www.baganhouse.com ; 9 Jasmin Rd; 8am-7pm) Worth seeking out on the backstreets, this
stylish showroom has a mix of cheap and higher-priced lacquerware, as well as the usual
artisans at work. Unlike other places, it does accept credit cards if you spend more than
$100, with the usual hefty surcharge.

Internet is available at several places along the main street.
Exotissimo ( 061-60383; 9am-6pm Mon-Fri, 9am-noon Sat) High-end agent, which can
arrange Mt Popa tours or rent imported mountain bikes ($10 per day).
Myanmar Travels & Tours (MTT; 061-65040; 8.30am-4.30pm) The government-run
tourist office can help organise excursions to visit Chin State.
Getting There & Around
See Nyaung U for most transport connections. There are airline offices on Main Rd. U
Zaw Weik ( 061-65017; zawweik@myanmar.com.mm ; Main Rd) helps with air tickets or can
arrange a taxi around Bagan, to Mt Popa or to destinations further afield such as Kalaw
or Mandalay.
Bicycle rental starts at K2500 per day.
