Kawthaung Motel HOTEL $

) A former government hotel, the Kawthaung has recently renovated, mostly spacious
and very mint-green rooms, some with great views over the ocean. Located about half a
mile west of the jetty.

Honey Bear Hotel HOTEL $
( 059-51352; Strand Rd; r 800B; ) Overlooking the jetty, the Honey Bear consists of
39 relatively modern but simple rooms equipped with TV, air-con, hard beds and cold-
water showers.

Penguin Hotel HOTEL $
( 059-51145; 339 Sabel St; r incl breakfast $20-70; ) The rooms at the Penguin are
new-feeling, but a tight fit, particularly the fan-cooled singles. Located a couple of
blocks west of the jetty, behind the market.

Andaman Club RESORT $$$ $$$

land directly south of Kawthoung, is this 205-room luxury resort. It's worth pointing out
that there's no beach on the island, but golf, gambling, spas and excursions to other is-
lands can be arranged. Andaman Club can be reached by boat from Ranong's Saphan Pla
Pier or by an hourly shuttle boat from Kawthoung.

Daw Moe BURMESE $
(Neikban St; meals from K2000; 9am-9pm) This tin-roofed restaurant, with no roman-
script sign, serves a disproportionately vast spread of Burmese dishes. Located on the up-
hill portion of Neikban St, about a half mile from the pier - locals will point you in the
direction.

GETTING TO THAILAND: KAWTHOUNG TO RANONG

Kawthoung (also known as Victoria Point), at the far southern end of Tanintharyi
Region, is, as of 2013, one of Myanmar's new 'open' borders for foreign tourists.
But there are a few caveats, and the following information is liable to change, so be
sure to check the situation locally before you travel.
