In-Depth Information
( 042-42329; www.grandhotel-chaungtha.com ; Main Rd; r K50,000-109,000; ) There
were some renovations going on at this beachside property when we dropped by, the
three-storey deluxe sea-view rooms were finished and sleep up to three in good comfort
with plenty of facilities. A major plus is the hotel's Grand Bistro restaurant and attached
bakery, offering not only fresh bakes but also the promise of authentic cappuccino (elec-
tricity supply permitting!).
Shwe Hin Tha Hotel HOTEL $$$
( 042-42118; Main Rd; r incl breakfast & dinner $40-60; ) Located near the bus drop-off
point, this is Chaung Tha's most popular backpacker choice, possibly because of its
breezy seaside bar. The rooms and bungalows are unremarkable, but it's located at the
quiet northern end of the beach and has intermittent wi-fi.
Diamond Hotel HOTEL $$$
( 042-42380; Main Rd; r $40-90; ) The bungalow-based rooms here are large
enough, but leave you rather close to your neighbour. Rooms come with amenities such
as TV and fridge and rainbow-coloured balustrade on the balconies. There's a small pool
and hot showers at night when the power is on.
Golden Beach Hotel RESORT $$$
( 042-42128; Main Rd; r K55,000-88,000; ) This 56-room resort doesn't have the
park-like manicured grounds that others do, but the hotel room-style duplex bungalows
are in good shape and there's a very nice swimming pool. The cheapest rooms don't face
the sea.
Hotel Ayeyarwady HOTEL $$$
( 042-42332; Main Rd; r K40,000; ) Located across the road from the beach just
south of the market intersection, this turquoise-painted 1960s-style 'motel' complex of-
fers simple but tidy rooms. Cold water showers only, we're afraid.
Belle Resort RESORT $$$
$$$
( 042-42112; www.belleresorts.com ; Main Rd; r $76-115; ) The rooms are understated
sophistication with sprawling beds, massive windows with equally massive ocean views
and satellite TV. Enter the stylish bathrooms and things get even better with hot water
throughout the day. Downsides are that wi-fi is best in the lobby, service can be a bit
patchy and food is not brilliant.
