Mahasi Meditation Centre MEDITATION

meditation centre was founded in 1947 by the late Mahasi Sayadaw, perhaps Myanmar's
greatest meditation teacher. The Mahasi Sayadaw technique strives for intensive,
moment-to-moment awareness of every physical movement, every mental and physical
sensation and, ultimately, every thought. The centre only accepts foreigners who can stay
for at least one week. A dhamma (Buddhist teachings) talk in English (3pm; two hours)
is open to anyone to attend.
Dhamma Joti Vipassana Centre MEDITATION

teachings of SN Goenka, this simple, peaceful retreat is a short walk from Shwedagon
Paya and Kandawgyi Lake. Meditators must sign up for the introductory 10-day course
and share accommodation.
Panditarama Meditation Centre MEDITATION

adaw U Pandita, formerly a chief mediation teacher at the Mahasi centre, this respected
facility also runs the Panditarama Forest Meditation Centre at Hse Main Gon, 40 miles
northeast of Yangon off the highway to Bago. Courses in English are run for visitors pre-
pared to commit to stays of one week or more.
