In-Depth Information
Notice that it's using different metadata from the video and audio files you cata-
loged earlier. This is because you chose the Graphic metadata set for the third scan
in order to apply different metadata to the graphic files, as opposed to the video
and audio files.

Discovering Assets Using Watchers
In the previous exercises, you learned how to utilize the Final Cut Server scan functional-
ity to add different types of assets into the catalog. Another way to get assets into Final
Cut Server is by utilizing watchers.
Wa tc h e r s are folders that are on a device that is constantly being watched for new files.
Ninety percent of the time, this is done so that the file can be moved and possibly
transcoded to another device.
A common scenario involves copying the file directly to another device, such as a net-
work-mounted, shared, or Xsan file system, and from there to the Final Cut Server
catalog.

will add its specific file type to the Final Cut Server catalog.
First you're going to make the folders in the Finder that Final Cut Server is going to
be watching. During the installation, Final Cut Server makes a default device called
Wa t c h e r s . I t's l o c a t e d a t t h e r o o t o f w h e r e yo u i n s t a l l e d t h e F i n a l Cu t S e r ve r p r ox i e s
and media.
Open the Finder and navigate to Macintosh HD/FCSvr.

NOTE In the real world, you would find this on a separate server that is
sharing the watchers via AFP (or some other network protocol, or a mounted
file system such as Xsan). For this exercise, this folder is located on your local
system in FCSvr.
