Acquisition Scenario #1: Scan
The first scenario involves having Final Cut Server scan the FCP Capture Scratch folder
and automatically add assets to Final Cut Server as they are ingested using log and trans-
fer. This has the advantage of making your media available immediately to everyone in
your workgroup, and not waiting for the editor to save the project and upload into Final
Cut Server. This scenario is used most often in a multiple-user environment where the
capture scratch usually resides on shared storage (Xsan). Any metadata entered during the
log-and-transfer process is automatically mapped across to Final Cut Server as log and
transfer embeds the logging notes into the QuickTime file. Mapping metadata literally
means taking external metadata (in this case, Final Cut Pro metadata) and moving it into
Final Cut Server.
ADMIN
Preparing Final Cut Server
Before you ingest your assets using Final Cut Pro, you may first set up Final Cut Server to
automatically discover these assets. You'll be creating and adding the Final Cut Pro capture
scratch location as a device in Final Cut Server, and you'll be setting up add-only scans to
pick up this new material for the first scenario.
Final Cut Server ships with default templates for metadata that should work for most
people, but also allows you to create your own fields, groups, and sets to suit your needs.
