With Final Cut Server, Apple provides an essential and long-sought-
after solution for the collaborative requirements of digital creative work.
Final Cut Server features a powerful database and an easy-to-use inter-
face that allow it to meet three important needs:
It manages assets by interacting with both creative application soft-
ware—most notably Final Cut Pro—and an organization's
networked storage systems.
For users inside or outside an organization, it acts as a conduit to
collaborative steps such as reviewing shots, annotating sequences,
and checking files in and out.
It automates workflow as it generates proxy (low-resolution) ver-
sions of clips for quick access; copies and transcodes assets from
one storage system to another; scans for new and changed media;
and looks for changes in asset metadata, triggering email notifica-
tions and a host of other automated actions.
