Lesson 6
Editing with Final Cut Pro
In Lesson 3 you learned how to discover and catalog Final Cut Pro assets.
This lesson will take you through the process of using these assets in the
editorial workflow.
First let's look at some of the key terms used in this lesson:
Lesson 1 discussed the primary representation , the original file that
was used to make an asset. In the case of video assets, it can also
be referred to as the high-resolution, or hi-res, media. The primary
representation will be used for the online workflow.
Some organizations also have Edit Proxies , which can use the Apple
ProRes Proxy codec. Edit Proxies can be used as a lightweight
alternative to the primary representation. Also, in the case where a
Final Cut Pro project contains primary representations of different
formats, the ProRes Proxy codec serves as an equalizer for all these
assets, making it perfect for an editing base. Edit Proxies are used
for an offline workflow.
A
edit-in-place device is one in which the server and clients have
access to the media in the same path. Typically, this device will be
an Xsan where the server's desktop clients have the Xsan file system
mounted at the same path. When you set up an Xsan device in
