Annotated Bibliography
Well, partly annotated: I comment on those references that I found to be particularly
helpful, those that are a good read, and also those that are broad enough in scope to
touch upon more than one of the subjects discussed in this topic. As I remarked in the
introduction, I am hoping that the main text will have whetted your appetite for
further reading on some of these subjects; the annotated texts will take you to a
deeper level.
Acar, C., and A. Shkel. 2008. MEMS Vibratory Gyroscopes . New York: Springer.

A very readable account of the European exploration of the Pacific from the late
sixteenth to the late eighteenth centuries.

An engaging if somewhat rhapsodic account of the Lewis and Clark expedition

This account sets the table first, with useful information on the political back-
ground to the expedition.

tion 50:362-71.

A comprehensive, balanced, and engaging account of the long search for a
method of estimating longitude.
