As we have seen, an increasingly familiar example of GIS is Google
Earth, which allows users to zoom in on a very specific location from,
essentially, a very large-scale view of the earth as seen from space. Di√erent
information layers are added as the user zooms in to smaller scales. Geo-
graphic information systems are likely to increase in both capability and
significance as data accumulate and computer technology advances.
