neuron gives the maximum response among all neurons. The response curves express the
strength of a neuron's response to stimuli at different wavelengths. The regions of maximum
response are indicated by filled areas under the curves. We may observe that the neurons
responding maximally to adjacent wavelength regions are also neighbors in the map.
