In-Depth Information
back and forth between Notes and your working application, you can pin a note to the desktop, which forces the
note to stay visible, even when you switch to another application.
Here's how to pin a note to the OS X desktop:
1. Double-click the note you want to pin. The Notes app opens the note in its own window.
2. Click and drag the note title to the position you want.
3. Choose Window Float on Top. The Notes app keeps each opened note on top of any other window
you open. Figure 4.16 shows an example.
4.16 A note pinned to the OS X desktop always appears on top of your other applications.
The Notes app lets you pin multiple notes to the OS X desktop, which is useful if you have different notes that
apply to the same task that you're working on in another application. Of course, you need to exercise a bit of
common sense here because the pinned notes take up space on the desktop, so you need to leave enough room
to work in your other applications.
In case you're wondering, OS X doesn't allow you to keep the Notes window itself on top of other windows on your
desktop. The pinning technique you learned in this section applies only to open note windows.
Setting up a reminder
The Calendar app is an excellent tool for tracking appointments, meetings, and other events. By adding an alert
to an event, you get a digital tap on the shoulder to remind you when and where your presence is required.
