Synchronizing movies
It wasn't all that long ago when technology prognosticators and pundits laughed at the idea of people watching
movies on a 2.5-inch screen. Who could stand to watch even a music video on such a tiny screen? The pundits
were wrong, of course, because nowadays it's not unusual for people to watch not only music videos, but also
short films, animated shorts, and even full-length movies on their iPods and iPhones. Of course, watching
movies and videos on the gorgeous — and relatively large — iPad screen is a no-brainer.
The major problem with synchronizing movies is that their file sizes tend to be quite large — even short films
lasting just a few minutes weigh in at dozens of megabytes, and full-length movies are several gigabytes.
Clearly, there's a compelling need to manage your movies to avoid filling up your device and leaving no room
for your favorite band's latest album. If you have an iPad, iPhone, or video-friendly iPod, follow the steps in the
next two sections to configure and run the movie synchronization.
Synchronizing rented movies
If you've rented a movie from iTunes, you can move that movie to your device and watch it there. Note that
you're moving the rented movie, not copying it. You can store rented movies in only one location at a time, so if
you synchronize the movie to your device, it's no longer available on your computer.
Follow these steps to sync a rented movie to your device:
1. In iTunes, click your iPod, iPad, or iPhone in the Devices list.
2. Click the Movies tab.
3. In the Rented Movies section, shown in Figure 3.3, click the Move button beside the rented movie
you want to shift to your device. iTunes adds the movie to the On “ device ” list (where device is the name
of your iPod, iPad, or iPhone).
4. Click Apply. iTunes syncs the device using your new rented movie settings.
