tamperproof Torx screw The type of screw used to secure the case of third-, fourth-, and

tap To use a fingertip to quickly press and release the MacBook Air trackpad.
thread A program task that can run independently of, and (usually) concurrently with, other
tasks in the same program. See also multithreading.
Universal Plug and Play A technology standard that enables a system, such as MacBook
Air, to recognize, interrogate, and configure a hardware device.

user agent A string that a web browser uses to identify itself to a web server.
user-installable Describes a computer component that is fairly easy to remove and replace.
vCard A file that contains a person's contact information.
video mirroring An external display mode where the same image that appears on MacBook
Air's main or built-in display also appears on the external display. See also extended desktop
mode.
virtual memory Memory that MacBook Air can address beyond what is physically installed
on the system by using a piece of your hard drive set up to emulate physical memory.
web bug An image that resides on a remote server and is added to an HTML-formatted e-
mail message to prove that your e-mail address is legitimate.
Wi-Fi (Wireless Fidelity) A wireless networking standard that enables wireless devices to
transmit data and communicate with other devices using radio frequency signals that are
beamed from one device to another.
widget A small program that runs in MacBook Air's Dashboard application.
workflow AscriptcreatedwithAutomatorthatimplementsaseriesofactionswherethedata
returned by one action is passed along to the next.
zero out To overwrite the free space in a hard drive with a series of 0s.
