Hypertext Markup Language A collection of codes — called tags — that define the under-
lying structure of, and to some extent the formatting on, a web page.
infrastructure wireless network A standard wireless network that uses an access point. See
also computer-to-computer wireless network.
keychain A list of saved passwords.
login items The applications, files, folders, network shares, and other items that start auto-
matically when you log in to your user account.
male connector A cable connector with pins. See also female connector.
memory effect The process where a battery loses capacity over time if you repeatedly re-
charge it without first fully discharging it.
mirroring Displaying your MacBook Air screen on your TV.
multithreading Running two or more threads in a single program at the same time. See also
thread.
Multi-Touch A trackpad technology that can detect and interpret two or more simultaneous
touches, such as two-finger taps, spreads, and pinches.

pair To connect one Bluetooth device with another by typing a passkey.
partition A subset of a hard drive onto which you install an operating system (such as Mac
OS X in one partition and Windows in another).
permissions A collection of settings that determine what users, or groups of users, can do
with a file.
piconet An ad hoc wireless network created by two Bluetooth devices.
