CPU
The chip inside MacBook Air that acts as the computer's control and command center.
Also called the processor.
cycling
Letting the MacBook Air battery completely discharge and then fully recharging it
again.
deep discharge state
A battery condition where the battery can no longer hold a charge.
defragmented
Describes a hard drive in which each file is stored in a single place on the
drive. See also fragmented.
discoverable
Describes a device that has its Bluetooth feature turned on so that other
Bluetooth devices can connect to it.
dual-link
A Digital Video Interface (DVI) cable that uses two transmitters. See also single-
link.
event
An appointment or meeting that you've scheduled in Calendar.
extended desktop mode
An external display mode in which MacBook Air's desktop is ex-
tended onto the external display. See also video mirroring.
false positives
A legitimate e-mail message that has been marked as spam.
female connector
A cable connector with holes. See also male connector.
firewall
A security feature that monitors a computer's incoming connections to ensure that
no unauthorized data makes it through.
firmware
A small program that runs inside the device and controls its internal functions.
fragmented
Describes a hard drive in which the files are broken into smaller chunks and
spread around the drive. See also defragmented.
Gbps
Gigabits per second (billions of bits per second).
group
A collection of contacts created using the Contacts app. See also Smart Group.
headset
A combination of headphones for listening and a microphone for talking.
