In-Depth Information
OS X Mountain Lion and Lion make a crucial distinction between “scrolling a window” and “moving a window's con-
tent.” For example, if you're at the top of a web page and you want to see more of the page, you can either scroll down
or move the content up. By default, Lion assumes the latter, so you slide two fingers up to see more of the page. If you
prefer to scroll down, open System Preferences, click Trackpad, click Scroll & Zoom, and then deselect the Scroll dir-
ection: natural check box.
Zooming. Place two fingers on the trackpad and spread them apart to zoom in, or pinch them together to
zoom out.
Smart zooming. Double-tap the trackpad to expand a photo to fill the screen; double-tap again to zoom back
out.
Rotating. Position the mouse pointer over an image, place two fingers lightly on the trackpad, and then ro-
tate the fingers in a circle. MacBook Air rotates the image in the same direction as your fingers.
Displaying the Notification Center. Slide two fingers to the left from the right edge of the trackpad.
Navigating tabs in Safari. Pinch two fingers together on the trackpad to display the open tabs, and then
swipe with two fingers left and right to navigate the tabs.
Navigating pages. In an application that contains multiple items or pages, slide two fingers to the right to
view the next item, or slide two fingers to the left to view the previous item. If the application's items or pages
are displayed vertically, slide two fingers down or up to navigate the items.
Three-Finger Gestures
Here's a list of the three-finger gestures you can use on the MacBook Air trackpad:
Opening Mission Control. Place three fingers on the trackpad and swipe up. Swipe down with three fingers
to close Mission Control.
Looking up a word in the Dictionary. Select the word (double-tap it), and then double-tap the trackpad us-
ing three fingers.
Dragging with three fingers. Move the mouse pointer over an object, place three fingers on the trackpad,
and then slide all three fingers at once to move the object.
