13.4 In the Sound preferences, use the Output tab to set the volume.
Check the output device. If you're using external speakers, make sure that they are plugged in to an AC
outlet and turned on. Also check the connection to MacBook Air. If you're using Bluetooth speakers, make sure
the device is discoverable and that it has been paired with MacBook Air.
Get Windows Media Components for QuickTime. If you're trying to play files, such as audio files in the
WMA (Windows Media Audio) format, you won't get very far. OS X doesn't support that format, as it is pro-
prietary to Microsoft. Fortunately, Microsoft offers a QuickTime add-on called Windows Media Components
for QuickTime, which extends QuickTime so that it can play Windows Media files. Visit the following page to
