4. Close the Safari preferences.
Safari now displays a Develop menu that contains lots of commands of great interest to programmers. For your
purposes, you need to choose Develop →User Agent to see a list of user agent strings, as shown in Figure
12.17. Choose the string you want to use and then try accessing the site. If you still don't get in, keep trying dif-
ferent user agents.
When you're done with the site, choose Develop →User Agent →Automatically Chosen to reinstate the default
user agent setting.
12.17 With the Develop menu in place, the User Agent command presents a list of user agent strings you can use to fool a
site into letting Safari in.
Your bookmarks are in Internet Explorer
If you're switching from Windows to MacBook Air, you might be wondering if you have to give up all your
carefully stored Internet Explorer favorites as part of the deal. No way! As long as you still have access to your
Windows machine, you can export your favorites from Internet Explorer and import them as bookmarks into
Safari.
First, follow these steps to export your Internet Explorer favorites to a file:
1. On your Windows PC, launch Internet Explorer.
2. Start the Import/Export Wizard.
Internet Explorer 8, 9, and 10. Click Favorites, click the Add to Favorites menu, and then click Im-
port and export.
