12.12 To enable Remote Disc connections on the host, make sure the firewall is not blocking incoming connections.
You can't use Remote Disc with a Windows drive
Remote Disc works best with another Mac as the host computer because Macs have the DVD or CD Sharing
feature built in (assuming it's running at least OS X 10.4.10). If you don't have a Mac that comes with DVD or
CD Sharing, or if MacBook Air is your only Mac, you might want to use a Windows computer on your network
as the host computer. However, that's a problem because Windows doesn't come with the DVD or CD Sharing
feature. Fortunately, you can work around this problem by installing that feature on the Windows PC you want
to use as the host.
To use Remote Disc with Windows, the Windows PC must be running Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, or
Windows XP with Service Pack 2 or later.
Follow these steps:
1. On the Windows PC, use a web browser to navigate to http://support.apple.com/kb/DL112 . If
you're running Windows 8 or Windows 7, don't sweat that (at least, as I write this) the system requirements
only mention Windows Vista and XP. DVD or CD Sharing works fine in Windows 8 and Windows 7.
2. Click Download to download the DVD or CD Sharing Installer, and then run the program. The
DVD or CD Sharing Installer appears.
