4. Read the S.M.A.R.T. Status value, as shown in Figure 10.4.

Check the hard drive's S.M.A.R.T. Status value.
If all is well, the S.M.A.R.T. Status value says Verified. If you see either About to Fail or (worse) Failing (see
Figure 10.5), perform an immediate backup. Then replace the hard drive as described later in this chapter.
